Assistant Professor Livia Eberlin is a recipient of a $200,000 grant from the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT).
This new grant will support Dr. Eberlin's laboratory effort in developing advanced mass spectrometry technologies for preoperative molecular diagnosis of cancer. This particular project is being carried out in collaboration with doctors from MD Anderson, and is focused on the development of cutting-edge analytical tools for rapid diagnosis of lung cancer biopsies. The goal is to push the limits of ambient ionization mass spectrometry for direct analysis of small biopsy tissue samples in order to provide a fast and accurate diagnosis based on metabolic information. Dr. Eberlin is also currently working with a group of researchers from Baylor College of Medicine applying similar technologies to the analysis of thyroid cancer biopsies.
