Three Students Receive Graduate School Continuing Fellowships

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is proud to announce that three of our graduate students have received 2010-2011 Continuing Fellowships. The students are Stephanie Taylor, Biochemistry (Christian P. Whitman group); Christopher Grant, Chemistry (Michael Krische group); and Daniel Dreyer, Chemistry (Christopher Bielawski group).

Dreyer’s area of focus is “Applications of Ionic Liquids in Dynamic Polyelectrolytes and Graphene-Based Ultracapacitors”. Grant is studying the “Synthetic Studies of tert-Prenylated Alkloids”. Taylor’s research is directed toward the “Evolution of Enzymes from Methanosarcina acetivorans and Methylibium petroleiphilum”.

These awards are made to students who are currently enrolled in a graduate program at The University of Texas (UT). Graduate advisers submit nominations to the Graduate School. Faculty review committees evaluate the applications and emphasize the student's accomplishments since he or she entered Graduate School.

Awards are based on major accomplishments since entering Graduate School, a well-defined program of research, strong personal statement, and letters of recommendation. Financial need is considered.

2010-2011 Stipend is $18,000 (9 months). In addition, up to $1119 supplement for medical insurance and up to $3566 per long semester toward tuition and fees is awarded. Generally 80-90 awards are made annually.
